SAS Accommodations Guide: Procedures and Practices

Overview and Purpose

University of New Hampshire - Student Accessibility Services (SAS)

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) provides a wide range of different supports and services, but providing students with accommodations is a core function of our work. Accommodations are personalized supports that remove specific barriers with the goal of ensuring an individual can meet essential requirements or perform their job duties. The purpose of accommodations are not to change the standards or alter requirements, but instead provide different means of access to the individual.

Depending on the needs of an individual, accommodations can take a wide variety of different forms. This includes, but is not limited to:

Purpose of the Guide

The purpose of this guide is to provide both students and instructors with additional information about the most common accommodations approved through SAS. As appropriate, this guidance includes information about:

  • Key Things to Know
  • Student Responsibilities
  • Accommodation Processes
  • Implementation Recommendations
  • Common Questions

It is important to note that not all accommodations provided by SAS are featured within the guide. Accommodations are determined through an individualized and interactive process, so specific accommodations vary and not all students will be qualified for all accommodations within the guide. If you have questions about an accommodation or want to explore different types of accommodations, please reach out directly to SAS.

Still Have Questions about the Guide?

If you have questions about accommodations or content within the guide, please feel free to contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS). We will be happy to answer your questions!

PLEASE NOTE: SAS only provides accommodations for UNH students. UNH faculty and staff accommodations are provided through the Civil Rights and Equity Office (CREO)
